Katherine Dunford is a freelance artist located in Salt Lake City. Since she was 6 years old, she knew that art would be her life’s main focus. Kat loves most kinds of art, but most frequently deals in acrylic paint, oil paint, marker and colored pencil, digital art, collage, tattoo art, and murals/tapestries.
For Kat, art could mean many things. It means inner balance, outward expression, capacity for positive or negative social change, a show of appreciation, a journey into a problem, a discovery of a solution, a loud cry for attention, or even a secret that must never be shared with anybody.
According to Kat, art is so complicated that trying to define it is somewhat of a mute point. It is a being that one bears witness to, and in doing so you might even find that something bears witness to your being as well. For Kat, art is an irreplaceable facet of life.
Because of this profound relationship, Kat has found solace in pursuing several different types of art and experimenting with different techniques and symbolisms.
Past themes have included body image, war and global conflicts, expressing moods in colors, moving away from home, showing the movement of the body as time passes, equality of the sexes, struggles with feeling included, animals as symbols of strength and energy, plants as symbols of peace and belonging, and women as symbols of movement and purpose.
Kat has self-taught tendencies and loves to learn. She started taking art classes from as young as 13 years old and continued to pursue art education well into college. Currently she is preparing for the creation of a small at-home art business.
